Today’s Song/Day is Metric’s “Gimme Sympathy.” I was at Sidetrack in Chicago last week and this song was a kind of strange bridge between dark 80s pop and crap modern pop. It’s the kind of thing that would maybe maybe be a hit except Emily Haines is too lithe and not busty enough and it’s got a bit too much indie thrum obscuring its sheen. The video has some really subtle identity switching going on, so watch closely. The rest of the new Metric LP Fantasies is pretty great, too.
