- Ben: God, do you think people will go nuts like this when Britney dies?
- Ben: She's about our age, so I figure we're looking at some point between 2027 and 2035.
- Dave: i don't think that britney is quite at MJ's level
- Dave: i think actually that because of the internet we are now in a period where it's impossible for anyone to get as big as michael jackson was.
- Dave: there's too much dispersion. in the 80s there were only a few channels, compared to now.
- Dave: channels not as in television but as in content delivery systems. if you dominated some of them like michael, to the extent that he did, you could really rule the world. but i don't think that's really possible now.
- Ben: So the Internet has effectively liberated us from the superstar?
- Dave: i think so
- Ben: Replaced the monarchy of pop with a sort of libertarian anarchist commune?
- Dave: the internet and its scummy tabloid heart.
