Amy Winehouse - “Fuck Me Pumps (MJ Cole Remix)”
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away - a galaxy where 2-Step still existed, even - Amy Winehouse had it.
This song is actually pretty misogynist, but the lyrics are nevertheless hilarious, and the girl just owns them, even more than she does on the much more consistent (but somehow, less fun) Back to Black.
And of course MJ Cole’s classy, melodic mix doesn’t hurt. I think it probably says a lot about me - not all good - that my interest in British bass music basically began with 2-step and ended with grime. But there it is. I think Cole is making dubstep now; I hope he hasn’t pawned the synthesizer he once used to make awesome fake string sections.
